The BCS IT Personality awards ceremony was held on Saturday 5th october 2013 at theHennessy Park Hotel, in Ebebe Cyber city. The evening was marked by the presence of the President of the Republic H E Rajkeswur Purryag, the Director for HEQ, BCS , Mrs Kate Edwin-Scott, and top key players of the ICT domain in the country.

The President of the Republic of Mauritius praised the initiatives of the BCS Mauritius section to honour IT Professionals in a world where the intake for IT at university level is in the decline.

He talked about the importance of IT as the enabler of all income factors and IT as a service for the economy of Mauritius.  He praised the work of genuine IT professionals and look forward to have more such events where IT Professionals are valued. 

He talked about the delicate work of software and system developers whom he called as the real engineers to modern society.  He also congratulated all the medallists and winners and wished that BCS (Mauritius) maintains and uplifts the standard of the profession by more events with learned resource persons

Mrs Kate Edwin-Scott of BCS talked about the importance of recognising IT professional around the world. She mentioned : "As the Chartered Institute for IT, awards are a very important aspect of our work. People recognised by BCS include Sir Tim Berners-Lee, Linus Torvalds creator of LINUX,  Karen Sparck-Jones and Sir Maurice Wilkes, to name just a few of those we’ve recognised over the last fifty years. There are many, many more."

"We should all aspire to be the best professionals that we can and I would urge you to do just that; whether it involves becoming a member of a professional body such as BCS, working through your professional qualifications, aiming for Chartered IT professional status, entering awards such as these – they all help to achieve our goal - a highly regarded global profession.

Earlier, the Chair of the Mauritius Section, Mr. Veeshal Seeballack thanked the audience, the participants and the Regional Manager for supporting the event. He emphasised on the critical nature of IT and the IT Profession. He said" Today with the rapid development in technology, IT has became a companion for man whether being at home or adapted as industrial applications such as computerized equipment  in Textile industries, Manufacturing, Medical, Canning industries, automobile industries and others sectors as well. In order to respond to these exigencies, it is undeniably important to be professionals in the specific key areas of operation. For example, in textile industries, a millisecond of wrong calculation while operating a dyeing machine may lead to thousands of tons of fabric being spoilt. Hence, in order to meet the demand of the industries, BCS Mauritius is poised to produce IT Professionals to service different areas of operations in the country.

The Masters of Ceremony for the evening were Mrs Naseemah Carim Bacor & Mr Ashesh Ramjeeawon.
